The School of Arts
of Kathmandu University was established in 1996. It is one
of the six schools at the University established to impart
education in liberal arts and media in order to contribute
to the development of nation.
Vision
Education for enabling capability of individuals and promoting
ideals of social and economic justice and well being for all
persons and their environments
Mission
Promote the development of professional knowledge, critical
thinking skills Develop communication, interpersonal, intervention,
assessment and evaluation, and technical skills. Integrate
socially economically, politically and culturally relevant
components of human development.

Human
and Natural Resources Studies Center
The
HNRS Program at Kathmandu University is
the first interdisciplinary Master's Degree
course in Nepal (and probably in South Asia).
It comprises academic courses and basics
as well as applied research, and thus provides
students with substantial interdisciplinary
knowledge and understanding of issues related
to human and natural resources management.

Program in Development Studies at Kathmandu
University is another multidisciplinary
course offered to meet the growing complexity
of choices, issues, scales and resources
encountered in the planning, implementation,
evaluation, and monitoring of development

In August
1996, Kathmandu University (K.U.) opened
a Department of Music in Bhaktapur, where
ethnomusicology (B.A. and M.A.) and practical
music (North Indian classical and Nepalese
local traditions) are taught to Nepalese
and foreign students. The then German President,
Dr. Roman Herzog, inaugurated the department
during his state visit to Nepal on 29th

2006 under the Department of Languages and
Mass Communication. The Bachelor in Media
Studies is an intensive four-year program.
Besides consolidating knowledge in the discipline
